Yomari Punhi : festive time

According to the Nepali calendar, today is Yomari punhi. Yomari punhi is spoken specially in newar family. Yomari is a type of food as you can see in the picture and punhi is purnima. Being a newar I find all these festivals very amazing and interesting. And on top of that yomari is undoubtedly delicious. My nationality is Nepali but my mother tongue is Newar and only a Newar would know how importance these festivals are. We newar don't miss a month without a festival, like really we celebrate one festival in a month. So this yomari punhi is also a festival specially celebrate by Newars.

Main theme of our festivals is to eat, to be healthy and to be happy. And one thing I can guarantee you all that our health is always good until we stick to our pure home recipe. So this yomari is totally healthy and sweet. Since winter has started, I personally love to eat hot yomaris.

In formal language, yomari is a rice flour dumpling stuffed with molasses. It is a sweet Newari desert steamed and served hot. Yomari looks beautiful outside and sweet inside. And please not for a second, do not think it'll be difficult to make. It's look like difficult but once u get kneed-ed flour of rice in your hand, I am sure you'll find it very easy to make.

For making yomaris, ingredients you need are rice flour, chakku(molasses), sesame, vegetable oil, hot water. As I have already said, being a Newar I know how to make yomari. But that's the other thing that it doesn't look as good as my parents make. But I always try to make good ones and today also I am going to make. So what I exactly wanna say is you all can try to make and have that taste. If you want recipe from me specially then you can comment below.

And one last but not the least, in my Newar culture people having birthday in yomari punhi are given a mala of yomari. It's a kind of celebration and culture and it's very wonderful to see that stuffs.
